A multiresolution image registration procedure using spline pyramids

چکیده
We present an iterative multiresolution algorithm for the translational and rotational alignment of digital images. An image is represented by an interpolating spline. Coarser versions of this continuous image model are obtained by using spline approximations at various scales (polynomial spline pyramid). We use a coarse-to-fine updating strategy to compute the alignment parameters iteratively, using a variation of the Levenberg-Marquardt non-linear leastsquares optimization method. This approach yields very precise image registration with subpixel accuracy. It is also much faster and more robust than a comparable single-scale implementation, because the resolution of the underlying image model is adapted to the step size of the algorithm.

Non-rigid consistent registration of 2D image sequences.
We present a novel algorithm for the registration of 2D image sequences that combines the principles of multiresolution B-spline-based elastic registration and those of bidirectional consistent registration. In our method, consecutive triples of images are iteratively registered to gradually extend the information through the set of images of the entire sequence. The intermediate results are re...
متن کاملAn Optimized Spline-Based Registration of a 3D CT to a Set of C-Arm Images
We have developed an algorithm for the rigid-body registration of a CT volume to a set of C-arm images. The algorithm uses a gradient-based iterative minimization of a least-squares measure of dissimilarity between the C-arm images and projections of the CT volume. To compute projections, we use a novel method for fast integration of the volume along rays. To improve robustness and speed, we ta...
متن کاملContourlet-Based Edge Extraction for Image Registration
Image registration is a crucial step in most image processing tasks for which the final result is achieved from a combination of various resources. In general, the majority of registration methods consist of the following four steps: feature extraction, feature matching, transform modeling, and finally image resampling. As the accuracy of a registration process is highly dependent to the fe...
متن کاملSplines: a perfect fit for medical imaging
Splines, which were invented by Schoenberg more than fifty years ago, constitute an elegant framework for dealing with interpolation and discretization problems. They are widely used in computer-aided design and computer graphics, but have been neglected in medical imaging applications, mostly as a consequence of what one may call the "bad press" phenomenon. Thanks to some recent research effor...
متن کاملMultiresolution-based registration of a volume to a set of its projections
We have developed an algorithm for the rigid-body registration of a 3D CT to a set of C-arm images by matching them to computed cone-beam projections of the CT (DRRs). We precomputed rescaled versions (pyramid) of the CT volume and of the C-arm images. We perform the registration of the CT to the C-arm images starting from their coarsest resolution until we reach some finer resolution that offe...
